As promised, Liberty Mutual Group continued their sponsorship of the Boston Pops Fourth of July Concert on the Esplanade; a multi-year sponsorship agreement that runs until 2012 and totals $7 million.
A glimmer of [sponsorship] hope in the wake of the economic fallout that has vilified Finance and Insurance companies alike, the Fourth of July event, touts the title of, “one of the nation’s biggest Independence Day parties,” according to Liberty Mutual Group chairman, president, and CEO Edmund F. Kelly. The same Ted Kelly received an immense amount of attention back in May after speaking at a trade group conference hosted by the Independent Insurance Brokers and Agents of America, saying that receiving funds from the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) is a slippery slope that could potentially lead to strict government regulation and control.

This time around, Liberty Mutual Group made headlines with sponsorship of the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular that was emceed by CBS’s “Late, Late Show” host Craig Ferguson, and included a 21-minute fireworks grand finale preceded by a performance by local-favorite, Neil Diamond (ahem, “Sweet Caroline”). The show, founded in 1974 by then Boston Pops Conductor Arthur Fiedler and Boston businessman David G. Mugar, was aired locally by WBZ-TV from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and broadcast nationally by CBS from 10:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
